Peter ist mit einem Spaceshuttle unterwegs nach Barack - einem der Erde nahegelegenen Planeten. Sein Begleiter ist Captain Bearbeard (dt. BartbÃ¤r), den er zum Gedenken an seinen verstorbenen Bruder Louie mitgenommen hat. Verkleidet ist er als Weltraumpirat, um ferne SchÃ¤tze zu erobern. Doch leider kommt es anders, denn beim Anflug auf Barack gelangt das Raumschiff in eine rote Wolke, aus welcher elektrizitÃ¤tversprÃ¼hende Geister ins innere des Schiffs gelangen, und dieses zum Absturz bringen. Mit MÃ¼he und Not kÃ¶nnen sich wenige der Passagiere vor den rosa Fluten des aus SÃ¤ure bestehenden Meeres auf ein FloÃŸ auf eine Insel im Nirgendwo retten.Doch scheinen neben Peter allesamt Freaks auf der Insel zu landen: Jim, eigenlich ein knallharter Cowboy, der seinem Vater irgendwann erÃ¶ffent hat, dass er eigentlich schwul ist, Jill, eine Bulimikerin, die es sich nicht nehmen lÃ¤sst alle verbliebenen VorrÃ¤te zu verspeisen um sie kurz darauf wieder auskotzen zu kÃ¶nnen, sowie Adam, der mit einer Frau verheiratet war, die einer merkwÃ¼rdigen Religion angehÃ¶rte, welche er nur geheiratet hat, weil sie Geld hatte. Das Unangenehme daran war, dass man bei einer Hochzeit mit seinem Ehepartner zu siamesischen Zwillingen vernÃ¤ht wurde. AuÃŸerdem ist da noch die Prostituierte Nkosazana genannt Zana, an deren KÃ¶rper Ã¼berall FrÃ¼chte in Form von Annemonen wachsen.Nun heiÃŸt es fÃ¼r alle Ã¼berleben in einer lebensfeindlichen, fremden Umgebung...Wertung:Man kann von meiner Inhaltsangabe schon erahnen, dass das mal wieder Mellick-Typischer-Bizarro Fiction ist. Keine Ahnung, wie man auf so einen ScheiÃŸ kommen kann, aber es scheint zu funktionieren, und dabei sind die abstrusesten Dinge gar nicht von mir erwÃ¤hnt worden. Insgesamt mutet die Geschichte wie Robinson Crusoe auf LSD an, denn es gibt hier alles, was man nicht erwartet. Von Kannibalismus Ã¼ber deplazierte Footballspieler und ein Taco Bell mitten im Meer ist alles dabei. Dabei ist von der Sprache her das Buch recht gut zu verstehen. Leider liegt auch dieses mal wieder nicht in deutscher Sprache vor, aber man gewÃ¶hnt sich irgendwann dran und liest es fast wie ein Buch auf deutsch hintereinander weg.Der Humor ist hier nicht ganz so stark ausgeprÃ¤gt wie in anderen Werken von Mellick. Trotzdem ist ihm hier ein exzellenter Wurf gelungen, denn durch die typischen Bizarro-Elemente wird selbst die gewÃ¶hnlichste Story zu einer mellickschen Irrsinnsfahrt durch die eigenen Gehirnwindungen. Mit 291 Seiten ist die Geschichte dieses Mal auÃŸerdem recht lang ausgefallen und damit vielleicht sogar seine lÃ¤ngste Story. Auch das Cover von Ed Mironiuk fÃ¼gt sich wieder wunderbar in die Geschichte ein und rundet dieses Werk ab. Einziger Kritikpunkt von mir ist der Titel des Buches, denn es geht zwar um die "Tumor Fruit" aber in der Hauptsache geht es um die Gestrandeten. Das aber nur als Randbemerkung. Ist nicht Mellicks bestes Werk aber trotzdem ein extrem gutes.

Just finished reading Tumor Fruit - and yes, the title can be a little intimidating - never mind the cover - but like most Carlton Mellick the Third Books, there is so much more beneath the surface that I can't even praise it correctly without giving away great surprises and details - suffice to say that if THIS were what LOST was about, I wouldn't have given up on it after three seasons. Tumor Fruit is the story of an island of survivors, stranded on an Alien planet that might have other castaways on it, from other planets. The main character of Peter, and his personal plight, his motivation throughout the book, is beautiful - and in many ways this is the story of someone living out an adventure in the memory of someone else. This is unofficially closest to the Bizarro version of Pixar's UP. It's funny, it's messed up, it's perfectly bizarro and if you're a fan of Vonnegut, LOST, UP and anything else Carlton has written - then I am beyond confident that you will love Tumor Fruit.One of the best things Carlton Mellick does, is paint a large world of many character and breathe life into each one, there isn't one character that I'd call one dimensional - even the villains have detailed back stories that cast them in a more understandable light. He has done this incredibly well in books like Warrior Wolf Women of the Wasteland, Zombies and Sh*t & Armadillo Fists (all three, amazing books!) but with this story, he does it in a subtler way, weaves them in and out of each other seamlessly, and with a much sweeter tone. It's crazy, and it's wonderful and I literally couldn't wait to see what happened on the next page.

This was another great gem for the bizarro master Carlton Mellick III. This time around we have the whole lost on a island theme however this time the island is a new planet that is in Earth's orbit for a limited time. One of the visiting ships from Earth ends up crashing and we are introduced to a whole slew of lost characters that only CM3 can make into great bizarro back story. I really enjoyed how you get to learn about each person such as he did with Zombies and S###. Also this is on par with that length wise so a big plus I know I enjoy his longer novels more. As always highly recommended and can't wait to delve into some more of CM3.

A group of people excited to see a new planet get in a plane crash and land on an island surrounded by acid water. Once on the island, things get weird. Will you eat the fruit to survive? Solid read

This was a mix of bizzaro and Lost. The back stories were heartbreaking. The writing again amazing. Mellick turned the weird into beauty and his storytelling makes you not want to stop reading.

I have been on a Carlton Mellick kick lately with Tumor Fruit being my most recent. This is a real fun story to read with all the twists, turns, and adversities these characters undergo. Some good laughs, some good gore, and an overall great story. Thanks again Mr. Mellick, and keep'em coming!
